The sun shines on an exhausted land
Squeezed dry by our ruthless hands
It's done its best to meet our demands
Still, we expand

And if we never sound alarms at our routine
Then soon the world around will be anything but green

Our progress swells, leaving heaps of debris
And it's easy to think that's just the way it'll be
But soon we'll miss the forest and the trees
If we keep this attitude of doing what we please

While the human plague spreads across the land
And every living thing's either killed or canned
Our lack of restraint is hard to understand
And I don't, and I won't stand by while we

Pave all around, mow the forests down
Build with slabs of chrome, plastic and styrofoam
Line the walls in lead and fifty TV screens
Paint it blue and red, and anything but green

There's a nebulous power that we'd like to blame
Corporate monsters with no sense of shame
But just by living through a typical day
We'll find we're part of the problem more than we would say

Well every form of life has their own ladder to climb
And it leads to domination of the weaker design
But you'd think at some point we'd know to draw the line
We don't, and I won't back down while we
